For those who missed the news or heard through the grape vine, yes its true! JayMaggs is a part of a casting agency. Basically constant diversifying within the industry should be the norm for any entertainer in the bizz. We as the team took a decision that acting and presenting roles would be good for marketing and create a broad catchment area for a stronger fanbase.

The Signup!

On Saturday 09 November 2013 Jay was signed into Distinguished Artists & Event Management. This came after an impressive photo shoot that knocked the Agency off their feet.

Also the fact that the Kid is photogenic and vibrant, these qualities sealed the deal and guaranteed the spot also seeing him into the agency.

Lots of candidates sent e-mails and lots applied, some reached the requirements and most did not. To some reading this they probably are not shocked at all at this development, nevertheless the challenge is in meeting the peoples expectations.

This is a brave start and as we know television and acting is not the easiest thing to do seeing that many talented artistes in South Africa too are fighting for the #1 spot in the industry be it movies or music.

 

 

So who is Distinguished Artists?

 

Distinguished artists is a Johannesburg based casting and modelling agency. These dudes do not actually have a channel but they scout for television fit faces and personality to supply to the channels that are looking for Presenters, Actors, Models exetera.

How it works is they manage you and push you in the mainstream and help you penetrate the media extensively. They even manage musicians and to top it off supply candidates for television commercials and short films.

Currently the agencies track record is amazing and they are reputable.
Being signed in with them is probably a step through the door.

HOW TO FUND YOUR MUSIC AS AN INDEPENDENT ARTIST

Ways to get that guap for your next project------------------

Wassup people to those that follow this blog you will know that i focus on the music i do and the slumdog so to speak. Who in this case being the up&comer mainly in Rap/Hip Hop. This time around though i am focusing on the Independent Artist who is looking to launch a project or fund his music. Unfortunately most do not know how to get their next cash injection for the project they are willing to do.

Let me take this time to fill you in on how exactly you can fund you next project in these easy steps, bear in mind that these steps will work only if you implement them :)

SO HOW DO YOU FUND YOUR MUSIC AS AN ARTIST?

You find that in most instances the bedroom artist is the main victim of this problem right here. If you are looking at making money out of your music i suggest you look into this with a business approach and think out of the box.

Whatever your musical dreams, there are options available for paying for them. Who knows you might be able to make your next project a reality!

 Easy steps on how to get that "Guap" for your Music Project:

1.  Save Up - I know this might be stupid to some of you but hey, imagine the money you would have with those random coins you use recklessly spend on cigarettes. Lets Be Real!! Have a jar, or set up a second account at your bank, so that you can always be putting money into it. Always look for chances to do gigs and add to the pot. Creating a second account will actually help avoid the temptation of withdrawing the money.

2.  Local Arts funding - Check with the local city hall and inquire as to whether they have any funding grants available at the moment. Simply set-up and appointment with the arts department and do a write-up of your approach and be specific on the costs. The government gives out cash but try and get the Figures as accurate as you can make them, it also shows that you have done your homework.

3. Sponsorship - Local stores, clothing brands and marketing Agencies, will often be happy to talk about sponsorship, product or ad placement in exchange for funding a project. This is a very effective way of putting multi-band shows together. But bear in mind that you need to be able to offer a good deal to them too that is persuasive enough. Again the amount of work you put in will work to your favour. Example: Press Re-Leases, Magazine Spreads, TV appearances & Airplay.

4. Royalties -  If you are an artist you already know what this is. Record a hot track with a beat you bought or leased. Register you music with Samro. These guys will help collect the money you have made through being playlisted on radio stations because you do get paid when a Dj says "i will put you on Saaaan". Royalties are an easy way to make cash, imagine if Muvhango or Generations wanna use your track? Every episode the song plays you get guap. Well all i know is JR a.k.a Make the Circle Bigger got R1,000,000 from MTN for make the circle bigger. REMEMBER? 2010 World Cup. Lets be smart register your Music yall.

5. Branded T-Shirts & Merchandise - Look & Learn!! You will find Local brands in Edgars, Jet, Mr Price and Woolworths. Create a brand for your shirts if you already have start-up capital, this would generate tonnes of money especially if these previous steps i mentioned work for you. Multiply your money...

How to Break-Out & Make Moves into the Commercial Scene

What worked for me?

More than anything, one must be in a position to know what trend they are going for. Decide on what direction you are wanting to take musically because this is a fundamental part of creating your brand as an artist.

Manage your image well and also improve your appearance so that people notice you when they see your picture on the social web. LOOKS!! LOOKS!! LOOKS!! This is key as it will affect your market and the type of following you attract.

Be active on the web, meaning get onto 20sites if you can. Make yourself easily searchable on the internet by google. Try it google yourself, what do you find? Look in order to gain popularity you have to take charge of your own marketing as a whole and media works as a charm. Like who isn't on facebook or twitter? Think about it. Open Fanpages, Social network accounts and the whole 9 yards. Never under-estimate these platforms :)

In 1 year through my facebook, twitter, reverbnation, instagram, youtube i have attracted about 70 dedicated fans overseas that share my stuff constantly and share my music of which America shares my music the most with 20 people on the ground constantly mailing me and giving me advise on how to better my trends.

What Else Apart from Digital

Radio is a very integral part of your growth and i aint talking Yfm, Metro or whatever. Shocking enough these community radio shows actually have a huge follower ship. Most people in the underground scene tune in and the street cred is gained this way.

Like Students are Loyal to their campus radio channels e.g Uj fm, Vow fm. You will find that you will gain a substantial following from these stations at the same time have the students talk about you. Like when they having their lunch or whatever they be like damn saaaan' did you hear that yungen yesterday type thang. Hustle & flow get your music playlisted beacause the only way you will make an impact is if we hear you on a regular basis....Do not Leave your Cd at the reception call the station manager and set-up an appointment & get to know him personally trust me he will put you on. PLEASE RECORD PROFESSIONALLY! As a rookie i too was mocked about this, take your art serious focus on audibility and quality.

High Quality Photos to Better Represent you

You all buy a magazine based on the cover don't you? Well like 80% of consumers do before i go further here is a link to some of the photos i have on my profile: Albums.

You see as an artist you need to have that attitude in your pics too. Take photos high resolution and high quality. Incase some agency accidentally wants to hire you for an acting part in some series or soap don't be let down by cellphone photos on your portfolio.

Be that artist who takes time to put your imagery in the open and trust me this is a hyella good marketing tool, pictures say a lot about you. So display your emotion through them.

You already know by now that the mixtrape #BFTF is coming out in 2014, the works is hyella mad and its got some really dope tunes. Already #tracks are being favoured by the media and God knows whats next.

The Video for Chosen one is in Production so watch out for that. All in all i can say in 2012 Jay didnt look so confident, but this year he is looking like a star and a re-born one at that. His sound has improved and the mixtape seems to be of quality.

Hey world welcome to Jay's world. This kidd is pushing bigtime, with his works yet to be seen, we can add that he might be a silent assassin. He dropped his First mixtape in November 2012 tittled Upinsmoke. Join me as i take you through fasten your seat belts.

He goes by the name James Nqobile Magagula, born and raised South-African based Zimbabwean artist is here to make a statement. He has been at it for a minute but he explains that he struggles with finance at the moment so progress is a bit slow. Nevertheless this 24year-old rapper is still composing and promises to hit the screens hard in 2013.

He seems to be viral too with his track Upinsmoke which saw him through his rise in the digital space, clocking a whooping 2000downloads together with his hit gameover.

HIS WORKS 

Jay dropped his mixtape Upinsmoke and Single Adreneline over Festive, seeing him into 2013. Currently he is working on promoting his mixtape and do shows around Johannersburg. He says he will be dropping two tracks this year together with a video funded by his investor and Dad Mr.O.Magagula. He explains that getting airplay and coverage is tough but that has not stopped him and never will stop him.

Creative, young, passionate and driven we should be seein and hearing more from this cat. He also working on a dancehall/hip-hop track hoping to dominate clubs.
